Prayer that heals

What could be more natural than turning to God ... and seeing results!

Not long ago, a young man I talk with occasionally stepped up to me and said, "Give me a prayer that works!" As we talked, he asked, "How do you pray in Christian Science?"

Well, I thought, this is a really good question! So, I told him that Christian Scientists may sometimes petition God for help or guidance, but we wouldn't simply plead with God, "Heal me!" or "Please, God, save me!" Our prayer involves the acknowledgment of God's allness, of His healing power and perpetual presence, here and everywhere.

Prayer includes the understanding and grateful acceptance of the Biblical truth that man is the image and likeness of God—spiritual, perfect, and absolutely harmonious, now and always. Such prayer recognizes that the material view of man as a sick, sinning, aging mortal has no divine authority and therefore must at base be untrue. And this realization helps bring to light the healing power of divine Love.
