God has protected and cared for me all my life, but I didn't always know it.
Until 1950 I didn't believe in God—I could do anything. However, although I had a loving husband and three beautiful children, I was thinking in black circles of depression. I began to try to figure out how I could kill myself and take my children with me, because I didn't want them to suffer as I did—I saw only greed and avarice in the world.
One day while I was doing the dishes, I found myself saying aloud, "O dear God—if there is a God—help me to help myself." About two weeks later my brother asked my husband to come up to his ranch and help him build a guest house. He would be gone a week.
