In the fall of 1979 my husband was involved in a serious car accident. This event was to lift both of us to a new level of spiritual understanding, for which I give thanks continually.
He was driving home one night, when he came upon an icy spot on the curve of a road and lost control of our Jeep. He was thrown approximately fifty feet, and lay unconscious until the police found him later that night.
When the police called me at 3 a.m., telling me to meet them at the hospital, I responded immediately. First, I called a Christian Science practitioner to begin praying for us. Then I gathered up my son and took him to a friend's house to stay the night. When I reached the hospital, I was met by the attending physician, who candidly told me, "If your husband lives through the night, he will be a vegetable for the rest of his life." This was quite a shock to me. I immediately called the practitioner back. The love and sincere faith in God he expressed strengthened me, and I felt the peace of God with us.
