I Have recently had the thrill of learning to rock climb
I Have recently had the thrill of learning to rock climb. On my very first day out, we were to rappel down a sixty-foot incline. While waiting my turn I was so impressed with the calmness, patience, and confidence of the instructor; he never hurried us but constantly reassured us with his knowledge of the principles of climbing.
When my turn came, I found myself asking many of the same questions the other students kept asking, such as "Why do I have to lean back away from the rock?" "Are you sure the ropes can hold me?" Then it dawned on me that this instructor certainly knew much more about rock climbing than I did, and really I would rather trust his understanding of this sport than my own, which was very limited at that time. With that, I listened very carefully to what he told me to do, as my intuition guided me to do. And the results were successful.
After I reached the bottom, I thought about how this experience hinted at man's relationship to God. When we listen to His voice and act on it, He directs our ways correctly. God knows all there is of His spiritual universe, and we, as His spiritual offspring, can intuitively and confidently trust His wisdom. The Bible assures, "His understanding is infinite" (Ps. 147:5).
