"...Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science, has written in her book, 'Science and Health with key to the Scriptures', (p 3) 'Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more. Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech.'

"When we lament and bewail what we do not have, we make ourselves poor. We are feeling sorry for ourselves, and we are not looking for that for which we can be grateful.

"Let us resolve, as the New Year gets under way, to put God first,—in our hearts, in every activity; to trust Him completely; to look for and be grateful for that which we already have; and to remember—it is 'God that giveth the increase.' (I Cor 3:7)"
