Listening to our young son talking to himself in the next room makes me want to express my gratitude for many healings.

When I learned that I was pregnant, I was excited but very anxious; a previous pregnancy had terminated only six months before, which had been very difficult for me. Not only were there many fears and feelings of loss, but I was also grappling with a feeling of failure as a Christian Scientist.

From the beginning of this new pregnancy, a Christian Science practitioner provided ongoing prayerful support. I planned to have a home delivery with a doctor who knew I wanted this arrangement. However, he frequently voiced concerns about a recurrence of toxemia, which he said had caused the termination of the previous pregnancy and which he felt could be lifethreatening. Whenever symptoms of this condition would appear, the practitioner, my husband, and I would specifically pray about them, and the required medical tests would subsequently come back negative. During this time I was also healed of diagnosed high blood pressure. One of the specific spiritual facts we prayed to understand was that God made man perfect, spiritual, and not subject to material laws of heredity.
