When our daughter Christina was about three months old...
When our daughter Christina was about three months old, her feet were round as a ball. When we tried to open them, they sprang back into the old position. Her legs and feet were not in line either. The feet were turned in (toes pointing to each other). Because the law in our country requires that infants have regular medical checkups, I had a doctor at the maternity center examine her. He checked the length of the legs and observed a noticeable difference. He then suggested different methods for correction, including surgery.
I talked to my husband, and we agreed only to let them give Christina some special slippers or shoes with leg supports. Christina wore this apparatus partly during the day and at night for some months.
A Christian Scientist friend helped me at this time to realize the true nature and perfection of our daughter as God's child, as His perfect, spiritual idea. As I had done during my pregnancy, I thought a lot about this passage from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy: "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." I remember I also tried to see God as our daughter's true Father and Mother.
