Commitment to things that count
Does the word commitment frighten you? If so, you're not alone. Statistics show that most of us are very hesitant about making commitments—to friendship, marriage, career, church ... even God.
Of course, we all want the rewards of commitment. The affection of family life, the fulfillment of doing a job well, the fellowship of church membership, the spiritual peace that comes from living close to God.
So why are we slow to commit? Maybe we're afraid of what a commitment might require of us or that we won't be able to live up to our obligations. Maybe we're afraid we'll get hurt. Afraid our loved ones will desert us. Or we'll lose our job. Or afraid God Himself might fail us.
