Several
years ago a group of nurses at an Oregon university started wearing buttons with the slogan "Warning: Humor may be hazardous to your illness.
It's not simply something that comes after things are going well. Joy is part of the spiritual strength that enables us to triumph in challenging times.
"... We worship discontent in America; it is the fuel that runs our culture. ... But what ... about the simple desire to want what is good?"
Looking back on some tumultuous years, the writer realized she was no longer asking, "What can I get out of life?" She was asking, "Where can I do the most good?"
Instead of something vague and indefinable, Spirit, God, defines and guides our progress, meeting our needs in practical, tangible ways.
Are we appreciating the full significance of Jesus' healing work? Are we recognizing that he intended us to follow his example?
When the writer was in need of healing, she asked for help in prayer. She gained more than physical freedom.
We don't have to wait for material changes to find the genuine comfort and peace that belong to God's man.
