When I was young I attended a Christian Science Sunday School
When I was young I attended a Christian Science Sunday School. A loving relative of the family would take me there. In my teens I drifted away from Christian Science, because of family troubles but sometimes went to Wednesday testimony meetings with my mother, who herself had become interested.
Early in my marriage, smoking and drinking seemed to be the norm for my husband, and I went along with this. Still I always felt guilty and hated to smoke in front of my mother, who I knew did not like it. My husband was a military man and was accustomed to physical discipline. I loved my husband, but he was very domineering and had fits of temper.
On one of these occasions he put his hands around my throat. I did not resist but instead turned to God for help. My husband released his hands and freed me. On another occasion he picked up an object to throw at me; again I remembered to turn to God as the only power, and he put it down.
