Bibles on display for Bible Week
The Holy Bible is a living testament to God's power and love. The Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, treasured and studied the Scriptures from earliest childhood, and she urged her students to do the same. The First Church of Christ, Scientist, is celebrating National Bible Week by displaying some of the most significant Bibles in its historical collection. Today the entire Bible is translated into over three hundred languages and dialects. This exhibit includes some of the many translations of the Scriptures that are blessing mankind by making the Word of God available to everyone.
The first translations of the Bible into the English language were taken from early Hebrew, Greek, Latin, and Aramaic texts. This exhibit has Bibles in these languages. Also displayed are significant English Bibles, including the translations of Wycliffe, Tyndale, and Coverdale.
Other Bibles from this unique collection on exhibit include Dutch, French, Gaelic, German, Icelandic, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, and Welsh translations. Brief historical sketches accompany each Bible.
