To me one of the most significant aspects of Christian Science...

To me one of the most significant aspects of Christian Science is how its textbook, Science and Health with key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, really does unlock the Bible and make it useful. I saw practical proof of this in a healing one of our children experienced.

While our daughter was still an infant, a small red blemish appeared on her face. One evening, while giving her a bath, my wife decided to wash this area. When she did so, it started to bleed steadily and our daughter began to cry. I was in another room and didn't at first realize anything was wrong; our daughter didn't enjoy getting a bath then, and she usually fussed a bit. But when I looked in, I discovered that there was considerable bleeding, and the situation appeared quite serious. I told my wife, with a confidence I didn't really feel just then, that I would pray about this situation immediately.

I sat down in our bedroom, and quickly the thought came "There is something in the Bible that can help." Then I remembered Jesus' healing of the woman with the issue of blood (see Mark 5:25-34). I understood that what this woman had been reaching out for was the Christ, the good she saw exemplified in Jesus. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, "Christ expresses God's spiritual, eternal nature." Reasoning that Christ, Truth, is eternal assured me that God's healing power was as available to us as it had been in the time of Jesus.
