I was riding as a passenger on my son's moped, when we hit a bump on a paved road and fell at about fifty kph.
I lost consciousness and did not come to again until I was in the hospital. I couldn't open my eyes. Those around me were busy examining me to see if any bones were broken. (I later learned that my son was unhurt.) As long as I lay quietly, I was completely without pain. I was able to think clearly, and at once I began to give myself Christian Science treatment; I dismissed from my thinking any speculation that something bad could have happened to me.
If I had started to think about an accident as potentially real for man, the spiritual idea of God, this surely would have been giving power to possible injurious effects. "The scientific statement of being" from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was the first thing that came to mind. I repeated the statement aloud, sentence by sentence, and with full understanding. Then I remembered other passages from the Bible and Science and Health. I prayed in this manner with such conviction and joy that thoughts about an accident and the feeling of possible injury faded.
