Although this is election week in the United States, people everywhere will be making important choices. Not just this week but all the weeks throughout the year bring with them calls to decide on important issues.
In the long run, it isn't simply whom we choose in an election; it's what we ourselves elect to think. When what we elect to think is based on God's law of intelligence and love for His creation, the efficacy of God's power gives meaningful direction to human events. The call for humanity, honesty, and compassion—qualities that move mankind forward—continues to demand a response from all of us, from every citizen as well as our political leaders.
"Brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall," says the Bible. We can make our "election sure"; as we let our decisions and directions be guided by God, we will witness His love and grace as the true governing power in our lives. Whom we vote for, and how we vote to think, can be the outcome not of fanfare and opinion polls but of humble, heartfelt prayer.
