At one time a growth appeared on one of my eyelids
At one time a growth appeared on one of my eyelids. Later on I noticed that I was gradually losing sight in this eye and that the growth was becoming larger. Although fear and embarrassment tried to overwhelm me, I prayed and stayed calm. My calm was based on the understanding of my true spiritual identity as a child of God, who is not in the grip of evil and cannot possess bad character traits.
I went to a Christian Science practitioner to ask for metaphysical treatment. The practitioner assured me that man, made in the image and likeness of God, is spiritual, exempt from all discord or inharmony; that man is truly perfect, intact as God created him; and that the growth was no part of my true nature.
I also pondered some Biblical texts including, "Whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it" (Ecclesiastes). I realized that this growth could have no reality, for God did not make it. Continuing my study, I was strengthened and reassured by this text in Matthew: "Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up." I was also helped as I read in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy that God, divine Mind, governs the body completely. I concluded that God, the creator of all that is real, governs only the good, the real. This growth, not being of God, was unreal and had no place in God's creation.
