I must express not only my gratitude for the teachings of...
I must express not only my gratitude for the teachings of Christian Science but also my conviction of their truth. I was brought up in Christian Science, and I joined The Mother Church at the age of eighteen after I was healed of a large cyst at the base of my spine. I had had many healings before, but this was the first time I remember actively praying with my mother and a Christian Science practitioner to bring about the healing result. While praying and studying the Bible and the writings of Mrs. Eddy in the course of this healing, I learned a great deal about spiritual regeneration and about my true, spiritual identity as God's loved child.
I have had many healings since that time, including those of severe headaches, sore throat, cold, flu, and fainting spells. Because of all these healings, and because of the clear sense of God's love and care for His child that accompanies such healings, my husband and I rely on Christian Science for the care of our children. Any problem that comes up in our family is met through prayer. One time our daughter cut her finger with a razor blade. We wrapped the finger in a towel and turned to God, divine Love, in prayer. Very quickly the bleeding stopped, and there was no trace of the cut.
More recently our daughter woke one morning feeling ill. She said her head ached and she felt tired, and she seemed slightly feverish. I reminded her of God's love for her, and I began to pray. I also studied that week's Bible Lesson. At that point I asked if she would like to call a practitioner. She was in seventh grade, and I felt it would be good for her to participate in the healing process. She gladly called the practitioner, who agreed to pray with her and who assured her that sickness was no part of her true being as God's child.
