When I emigrated to America forty years ago, I had no real knowledge of Christian Science. All I knew was that it was a religion and that on Wednesday evenings the adherents of this religion held meetings at which testimonies of healing were given spontaneously. I became interested and attended a couple of these testimony meetings. I was very impressed by the sincerity of the speakers and the great diversity of the healings: health troubles, difficulties in human relationships, unemployment, lack of joy and satisfaction. In these testimonies I often heard statements by Mrs. Eddy, which led me to read her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
I started a notebook in which I noted various references from this book about law, spirit, grace, and other ideas. There were helpful absolute statements, referring specifically to God; as well as helpful correlative statements on spiritual progress. These references gave me a clearer understanding of spiritual concepts. Such peace, such joy, and such trust in a loving God came over me that I resolved to find out more about Christian Science and became a sincere student.
In the years since, my family has had many healings, and we've found great comfort in difficult situations. One time, a month before the birth of our second child, I was told by a doctor that I had a dangerous case of toxemia and should go to the hospital at once. I requested time to work out this situation in Christian Science. It became perfectly clear to me that man's real life does not consist of matter but is spiritual because man is the exact reflection of God, Spirit.
