My husband and I are lifelong Christian Scientists, and we...

My husband and I are lifelong Christian Scientists, and we have seen many difficulties healed through our reliance on God as our "refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Psalms). Recently I became quite ill, apparently with the flu. At one point I became delirious. My husband, who had been caring for me, was afraid that I was passing on. He called the Christian Science practitioner who had been praying for me. The practitioner came to our home and sat by my side and prayed. He reassured me of God's love and care for His children and helped me see that I could acknowledge and feel God's presence right away.

After the practitioner left, assuring me and my husband of his continuing prayer, my husband asked a Christian Science nurse to come to help care for my physical needs. The nurse brought a fellow nurse who happened to be visiting him at the time. One of them cared for me and read to me from the Christian Science Hymnal and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy while the other nurse helped calm my husband. While the nurse was reading, I fell into a normal sleep; I woke later refreshed and virtually free from the illness. My recovery was remarkably fast, and today I feel stronger and healthier than I have in years.

My gratitude to God knows no bounds. And I'm grateful for Mrs. Eddy's provision for practitioners and nurses to help us in times of need. The most wonderful thing about this healing, however, is not the fact that I was healed of the physical illness, but the fact that through this experience I have gained a deeper, clearer understanding of my oneness with God and of His complete love and care of His children.
