Children's powerful prayers
There has been much in the media lately regarding the effects of war on children. Worthwhile attention is being given to the challenges children face, and to how adults can help them make it safely through difficult times.
As the first of a two-part series on the subject of children and prayer, the following editorial considers a factor often left out of discussions: the spiritual capacities of children themselves, and their inherent ability to draw stength from these capacities.
One evening several years ago I was suddenly gripped with an internal pain, and was barely able to speak or move. My two youngsters rushed over to me. They'd never seen me like this, and I hoped they wouldn't panic. They didn't. Instead, they began to reassure and help me. My son put his arm around me and said with firm conviction, "Don't worry, Mom. God is right here taking care of you!"
