Spiritual salt
Our understanding of the Christ is the salt that Jesus told us must not lose its savor.
"Please pass the salt." How often we hear that simple request directed to us or to someone within our hearing while we are dining. Often we respond so automatically that we don't even need to think about it.
Although we don't always hear the request, much of mankind is crying out verbally or silently for another type of salt. Whether people are aware of it or not, they are seeking the Biblical "salt" that Christ Jesus spoke of in his Sermon on the Mount. This salt purifies, seasons, and preserves. It contains the spirit of tenderness, love, humility, wisdom, joy, purity: the attributes of God, Spirit.
Jesus told his disciples, "Ye are the salt of the earth." Then he added, "But if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men."
