A healing I had many years ago contributed greatly to my spiritual growth. One evening I became ill with symptoms that included swelling and intense abdominal pain. Over the next two weeks I had treatment through prayer from a Christian Science practitioner who was very loving and supportive.
Two members of my family were deeply concerned about my welfare. I am so grateful that they were willing to let me rely on God for healing, and also that I felt a complete lack of fear. Yet as I prayed for myself, I thought of Christ Jesus—the many things he endured and how steadfast he always was in the face of hatred, neglect, and suffering. I also thought of his devoted follower, Mrs. Eddy, and the tremendous work she accomplished in explaining the spiritual truths of Life in her book Science and Health.
One evening as the practitioner sat by my bed quietly praying, suddenly there were indications of an obvious change taking place in my abdomen. Along with this the pain lessened, and I was entirely free by the next morning.
