I am grateful that I was brought up in a home where Christian Science was lived and practiced, and that I was able to attend a Christian Science Sunday School from early childhood.

As a youngster, I enjoyed very good health. On the few occasions when I was sick, the healings came quickly and easily. In fact, they occurred so naturally that I really thought deep down I would have become well without the help of prayer and a Christian Science practitioner. Among those early healings was a case of scarlet fever that was healed in one day after it had been diagnosed by two doctors.

Probably because I had not proved this teaching for myself and at that particular time did not enjoy studying, I drifted away from Christian Science when I left home. I entered the military service during the Second World War and later attended college. Then I entered the business world. One thing I learned during this period was that in order to be truly well I needed to do something definite.
