I have always enjoyed reading the testimonies of healing...

I have always enjoyed reading the testimonies of healing in the Christian Science periodicals. They may be responsible for my staying with Science through my growing-up years. When doubts would creep in, prompted either by remarks of peers or through the courses I was studying, I would always be reassured by the healings and would think, "Christian Science really is true; here is the proof." Also, I was finding Science very helpful in my own life, particularly before and during examinations both in high school and college. So I now share a few of my own healings in the hope that others may be helped as I have been.

When our children were small, a sore appeared on my leg and remained for several months. Foolishly, I ignored the condition, although there was fear on occasion. Then, during a day of much walking and shopping with a friend, I rubbed a blister on one of my toes. The following day, when symptoms of blood poisoning were evident on the toe, foot, and lower leg, I finally called a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful help.

The practitioner quoted from the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, "But why should we stand aghast at nothingness?" (The full passage reads: "We may well be astonished at sin, sickness, and death. We may well be perplexed at human fear; and still more astounded at hatred, which lifts its hydra head, showing its horns in the many inventions of evil. But why should we stand aghast at nothingness?") This made a deep impression on me. I thought, "How foolish to be afraid of nothingness! If God creates all good, as the Bible tells us, there can be in reality no discordant condition." The fear left, and I started to study on my own the chapter in Science and Health entitled "Christian Science Practice."
