More on the subject of...immunity

Editors' Note: Parents who are Christian Scientists have the natural desire to provide the best possible care and nurturing for their children. As children get ready to enter school, a family's full reliance on God for healing and protection from disease may mean that certain accommodations have to be reached between the family and school authorities, who also have the clear responsibility to provide a safe environment for all children attending their institution.

Specific exemptions from physical examinations, medical treatment and immunizations, and classes teaching graphic descriptions of diseases are often allowed for religious reasons by state law or local school board policies. When a Christian Scientist family in the United States seeks such exemptions, a letter is provided for the parents by the Clerk of The Mother Church. The letter offers parents some of the broader perspectives needed in considering this important step.

In connection with the preceding statement from The Christian Science Board of Directors on the subject of immunity, readers may find it helpful to review the Clerk's letter to parents.
