I am grateful for the teachings of Christian Science, which have enabled me to demonstrate more and more of God's law of unchanging health and harmony. Through the study of the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I have come to know God as my Father-Mother, and to trust Him as my only physician.
A challenge that impelled my growth Christward was a loss of hearing in one ear accompanied by extreme pain. One morning as I was praying for spiritual guidance, I looked up the word ears in the list of Scriptural terms given in the Glossary of Science and Health. There I read that ears are "Not organs of the so-called corporeal senses, but spiritual understanding." I recognized immediately that spiritual understanding is incapable of feeling pain; rather it is alive to the omnipotence and goodness of God. I realized, too, that nothing could stop my spiritual growth or silence the Christ, Truth, being imparted to me by divine Mind. I was immediately healed; the pain stopped, and my hearing returned to normal.
At another time, this statement in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany by Mrs. Eddy, "Divine Love is our only physician, and never loses a case," brought an instantaneous healing. A poisonous cleaning product had been accidentally squirted into one of my eyes. After reading the antidote notice on the bottle, which said to call a physician immediately, I realized that I could turn totally to God, my only physician, to find the remedy that would neutralize the poison. I prayed earnestly to see my innate oneness with Spirit, God, and denied that a material substance could ever separate me from the love, power, presence, and saving activity of God. The poison was eliminated from my eye, and the swelling and redness vanished.
