As a member of another denomination, I was drawn to Christian Science through a desire to know God better. I learned of this Science through a business associate. After reading the first few pages of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I realized this teaching was something I had always believed but never knew existed as a way of life. When I read in Science and Health, "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds," I knew the key to what I had long searched for had been given to me. Many of my questions began to be answered.

My first healing was of social drinking. This came about through my earnest desire to become a member of the Church and to serve this movement, which is based on an understanding of man's true being as God's spiritual idea. When the healing of social drinking occurred, I did not realize it at first, because I had not felt that I was giving up something. It was wonderful to know that here was a teaching I could prove.

When my desire for social drinking was gone completely, my husband asked, "What about me?" Our life seemed to be a circle of many social events. I explained that I had found in the Scriptures proof for which I had long searched. In the years to come, Christian Science was of help to him, too, although I never attempted to change him.
