From awakening to demonstration—some goals of class instruction in Christian Science
Healing the sick and the sinner with Truth demonstrates what we affirm of Christian Science, and nothing can substitute this demonstration. Manual of The Mother Church, Art. XXX, Sect. 7 . Mary Baker Eddy
Awakening ... spiritual vision, light, and comprehension... knowledge of the truth ... understanding God and His creation ... application of divine law ... prayer ... practice ... demonstration. These are just a few of the essential elements of Primary class instruction in Christian Science.
Mary Baker Eddy, who founded the Church of Christ, Scientist, more than a century ago, was the first to teach a class on Christian Science. And her words from the Manual of The Mother Church, quoted at the beginning of this editorial, make clear what she expected to be the outcome of learning divine Science. It was unquestionable to Mrs. Eddy that anyone who would hope to be a modern-day follower of Christ Jesus would also need to understand the spiritual reality that was at the foundation of all the Master had taught and accomplished.
