Making the break with a "chariots and horses" mentality

Have you ever noticed that the Bible is in many ways what might be called "anticonventional"?

For example, it was contrary to the conventional wisdom of the time when Isaiah said, "Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord!" Isa. 31:1.

Christ Jesus could be said to have been talking about conventional thinking when he lamented, "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!" Matt. 23:37.
