Obedience
"Let down your nets," Luke 5:4.
the blessed Master said,
and the intrepid fisherman
did at once as he was bidden,
though previous experience
had not prepared him for
the bounty he pulled in.
Do we respond as promptly
to the authority of wisdom,
as Simon did so long ago?
Would we let down our nets,
not entirely with expectancy
but in acknowledgment
of the presence of the Christ?
The prodding of godliness
is always going on,
and our need is to respond—
sometimes by reaching high,
other times by probing deep—
so sacred treasure may be ours
when we, like Simon, are obedient.
