I have learned to find answers to each week's problems in that week's Bible Lesson, which is outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly. An example of this occurred in the fall of 1981.

The weather had turned cool enough to require that I restart the furnace, which had been shut off for the summer. Following the instructions carefully, I relighted the pilot burner and was waiting for the main gas burners to ignite when the telephone rang upstairs. I answered the call, and when I returned to the basement I did not hear the sound the furnace usually made when it was operating properly. I stooped down to peek through a port in the lower cast-iron door. At that very instant there was a tremendous explosion, which blew the heavy door completely off its hinges. The flames were directed at my face and arms, and I was knocked backward off my feet.

I quickly shut off the main gas-supply valve. One arm of my shirt as well as parts of my trousers had been melted. My right arm presented a very unsightly appearance, and my eyebrows and some hair had been singed. I washed the wounds and changed clothes, and shortly thereafter began to study the Bible Lesson for that week.
