A Number of years ago when our daughters were quite young,...

A Number of years ago when our daughters were quite young, my husband and I took into our home an invalid relative who was not a Christian Scientist. I began to feel very burdened by this added responsibility. Then I developed a severe breathing difficulty. It was particularly frightening at night. I often slept little, which left me feeling depleted of strength.

I prayed about the condition, and prayerful support was given by a Christian Science practitioner. Hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal meant much to me at this time. I would sing them aloud, or to myself, as I went through the day's tasks. Especially comforting were Hymns 144, 218, and 402.

The healing came as I realized the truth of these statements of Paul and Jesus: "I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me" (Phil. 4:13) and "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matt. 11:29, 30). The healing was complete. This relative continued in our care for many years, and the lessons I learned from this experience about patience and unselfishness continue to bless.
