Lessons from teaching Sunday School

When teaching Sunday School leads to healing, who could turn down the opportunity?

"I'm too busy to teach Sunday School." "We have enough members; let someone else do it." "I teach school every weekday. Don't I deserve a break?" These are some of the excuses I used to have when it came time to sign up for church committees. Not anymore!

During the past few years I have had the privilege of teaching Sunday School in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. I find this teaching encourages me to study more extensively the Bible Lesson provided in the Christian Science Quarterly. Sunday School teaching in older classes is largely based on this Bible Lesson. Not only do I feel better prepared for teaching after this study, but I find new understanding and strength to meet the demands of my own day-to-day work. I can best explain by sharing a few examples.

One week in January the subject of the Bible Lesson was "Truth." As a student of Christian Science, I knew that God is the origin of all that is true, the essence of reality itself. In that particular week's lesson there was a verse from John; it was Christ Jesus' promise "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:31, 32.
