Christian Science is the most precious gift I have ever received...
Christian Science is the most precious gift I have ever received and I thank God that my mother raised me in it.
Some years ago I fell and hurt my foot. A neighbor was visiting at the time but did not see me fall so I said nothing as I did not want her to worry. All seemed well till I got off the foot right after dinner. At that time it hurt so much I felt I should get help from a Christian Science practitioner. The woman I called agreed to pray for me and referred me to a passage on page 424 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. A sentence of it reads: "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection." I went over this truth in my mind for some time, then fell asleep. I woke later because of a loud snap in my foot. I expressed gratitude to God for this sign of healing. Though it was painful to put weight on the foot I held to the quotation above and continued my gratitude to God. By morning all pain had left, and I was able to put on dress shoes and go out for dinner and dancing that evening.
Despite these evidences of progress, however, there was a lump on the side of the foot that would not go away. One day I read something in an issue of the Sentinel that made me realize I needed to heal a form of pride in my thinking. I started to laugh because, of course, that was it! I was so proud of myself because I had not tried to get sympathy by telling people what had happened. It was right not to appeal to others' sympathies, but the pride I took in not telling others was wrong. The mesmerism was broken. Out went the false pride, and soon followed healing of the lump.
