I Was introduced to Christian Science by way of a bumblebee
I Was introduced to Christian Science by way of a bumblebee. I was a child at the time, and the bee stung me right behind the ear. Because I was terrified and in pain, I ran to my mother. She was talking to a stranger, who happened to be a Christian Science practitioner. The practitioner put her arm around me and told me things that I had not heard before. She spoke of God loving me, of my true being as His perfect idea, and of the fact that His creatures cannot cause harm. The help I received from the practitioner was much more effective than the medical aids to which I had been accustomed, and the hurt and fright were quickly gone.
With this healing my life began to change. The experience left me with a love and respect for God as an ever-present power. My parents enrolled me in a Christian Science Sunday School, and I loved the instruction I received there.
I have had many inspiring healings during many years. When I was about fifteen years old, I began to have great difficulty with my feet. I had always been self-conscious about my wet footprints on the dock at the swimming hole. Mine were blobs, whereas the other children's were in the form of neat crescents. But now my feet hurt and ached at night when I wanted to sleep.
