As a child, I visited different Protestant Sunday Schools and sometimes visited a Christian Science Sunday School. I occasionally attended Wednesday evening testimony meetings with my aunt at a branch church or read her Christian Science periodicals. But as I grew up I did not pursue the study of Science.
One day, years later, I picked up a book dealing with metaphysical issues, and I thought of what I had learned earlier in Christian Science. I began to pray earnestly for God to be an active part of my life, but I didn't know how this would come about.
Some time later, my instep became infected when a rusty piece of metal penetrated deep into my bare foot. A doctor prescribed antibiotics, but after several months I was sent to a specialist. He cleaned the wound and told me if this didn't bring relief, surgery would be inevitable.
