Ever since my first contact with Christian Science over fifty...
Ever since my first contact with Christian Science over fifty years ago (I was enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School), this teaching has been my way of life. By relying wholly on God, I have had many blessings. So-called childhood diseases were quickly overcome without the use of material remedies, and there were many years in which I had perfect attendance in school.
One day several years ago I woke with pain in one breast. Immediately these words came to mind: "... man is the image and likeness of God, in whom all being is painless and permanent." [The whole statement from page 414 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy reads: "Keep in mind the verity of being,—that man is the image and likeness of God, in whom all being is painless and permanent."]
The pain persisted all that day and into the next, so I decided to call a Christian Science practitioner for help. The one I spoke with said she would pray for me and reminded me that there was only the one Mind governing me. Science and Health says (p. 469), "The exterminator of error is the great truth that God, good, is the only Mind, and that the supposititious opposite of infinite Mind—called devil or evil—is not Mind, is not Truth, but error, without intelligence or reality."
