I attended a Christian Science Sunday School from early childhood. After reaching the age of twenty, I strayed from the church and attended only two or three times a year. I was too busy having what I thought to be fun. One day a young family member was killed in a car accident. I was devastated, not only by my own loss, but mostly because of the suffering I saw other family members enduring. In my search for consolation, I was drawn back to the Church of Christ, Scientist. That step proved to be wonderfully rewarding and comforting. I came to see that this relative had not really been taken from us—his true identity was that of God's immortal idea. I can now look back on those years when I had left this priceless teaching and can see how unhappy I had been, living as I was.

Our family has had many wonderful healings through the study and application of the spiritual truths of Christian Science. My grandparents were devout students of this Science, and so is my mother.

Sometimes a healing comes during an extended period of indepth study, and at other times it occurs through the clear realization of one simple truth. I visited a dentist one day to have my teeth cleaned. He also took X-rays, which revealed one cavity. I was scheduled for a filling the following week. Although it didn't occur to me to pray specifically to nullify the need for a filling, I prayed and studied as usual. And on the day of the appointment, as I sat in the dentist's chair, the thought came very distinctly to me: God's realm is here and all is well. I wholeheartedly accepted this. Upon examining me, the dentist found to his surprise that there was no cavity.
