Dear Saul-becoming-Paul

Those robes of Saul caused confusion,
all those Saul-actions.
The uneasiness deep within
that some untruth was underfoot.
You see, all along I keep expecting Paul.

True, the appearance to eye and ear is Saul.
Yet I caught the hidden light,
the you you are ... and really were ...
and ever will be.

I'm sure you see him, too.
Too many glimpses of him in you
for you to be unaware—
this manly tenderness,
humility of conscious worth,
will subdued to Truth.

And so, dear Paul,
dear Saul-becoming-Paul,
now I understand.
The Paul-of-you, the clearer one,
is what I love and comprehend.
