When I became pregnant with our third child, I asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray for the baby and me during the pregnancy. The things I learned about God's spiritual creation made this a special time of spiritual growth.

One evening during my pregnancy our five-year-old son became very clumsy, falling often as he played. It was one of his very special traits to be uncomplaining, so I didn't realize that there was a problem until I saw him pulling himself across the floor by his arms because his legs were useless. I put him to bed, feeling very fearful. While I knew Christian Science would heal him, I was concerned about being faced with a serious problem, for the baby was already overdue.

Our son soon woke. He was in pain, and his legs were drawn up. We were up most of the night. I read aloud every healing the Bible records of palsy and everything in Mary Baker Eddy's writings about paralysis, muscles, motion, and so forth. I was so grateful for my books and for the Concordances to these books. They kept my thought aligned with Truth when I was tempted to believe a false, mortal picture. Gradually I saw that everything, including what we humanly know as muscles, is governed by God, unchanging good. My fear abated and the child went to sleep.
