Value the opportunity

Some years ago I had the opportunity of spending a month in one of the world's most beautiful capital cities. But I didn't appreciate it as much as I should have because I was wishing I were somewhere else. More recently I again had the occasion to be in a world-renowned city. Although brief, this time the experience was both enjoyable and enriching because it made me appreciate how much Christian Science had come to mean to me in the intervening years. No longer was I wishing I were somewhere else. I'd found my contentment in the opportunity God gives us all to explore His kingdom wherever we are.

In any city there may be lovely views to be seen, famous historical landmarks to be visited, sweet nooks and corners to be ferreted out that usually only the residents know about. Have we ever thought of Christian Science itself as a spiritually rich "city"—without boundaries or limits of any kind—to be appreciated and known more intimately every day? We don't find this city at any specific place in the world, because it is not localized. It is universal and ever available. Christ Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world," John 18:36. yet he proved that God's kingdom can be recognized right here and now in all situations.

We can little afford to waste the opportunities we have to find the spiritual treasures that exist in this beautiful kingdom of God. His kingdom is open to anyone who is willing to seek it out in the spiritual revelation of Christian Science that is always at hand. The lovely vistas of Spirit are ever present and can be perceived right where material sense would say that the doors of opportunity, adventure, and joy are closed to us.
