I would like to express gratitude for the harmonious birth of our daughter about a year ago. My husband and I had got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner early in the pregnancy for prayerful assistance throughout the succeeding months, as well as during the labor and birth. We studied the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings in those months to understand more clearly the nature of God as our Father-Mother, and man as His child. My husband and I set aside time each week to study Bible references and passages from Mrs. Eddy's works that related to birth, as well as articles and testimonies from current Christian Science periodicals.

Our prayers opened thought to see the new child as expressing the divine unfoldment of good. Also, we strove to purify our motives, to glorify God, and to rejoice in life. Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health (p. 326) "Working and praying with true motives, your Father will open the way" was very helpful.

During the pregnancy I felt completely well and energetic. I did not suffer from any of the difficulties that women frequently have during pregnancy, and I continued to work outside the home, care for our three-year-old, and keep up with the daily chores of running a household.
