In 1979 we moved to a new house
In 1979 we moved to a new house. Several months later my wife asked me to pray about our home. She had learned that our life style and the work undertaken to adapt our house to our family's requirements had attracted the attention of a group of thieves who made verbal threats to rob us.
At that time there was an atmosphere of tension and insecurity in our city and in our new neighborhood in particular. Organized gangs were robbing homes frequently, and sometimes the occupants were murdered. Those in charge of maintaining public order also suffered from fear that took the form of reluctance to take action.
We felt our home was safe because of our prayer. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy we read (p. 1), "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love."
