Walking with Jesus

Imagine for a moment what it would have been like to walk with Jesus. Imagine that you were there on the road to Nain and you saw the widow's son brought back to life, and you joined with the city dwellers who glorified God. Or that you held a palm branch in Jerusalem, greeting your Master at his arrival in that holy city. Or that you were one of the dear children present when Jesus said, "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God." Mark 10:14.

What an unspeakable joy! Don't we all wish at times that we could have been there with Jesus, to witness the marvelous good works that he did? Don't we sometimes feel that if only we could have been there, our faith would now be stronger? That if we could only have seen Jesus in the flesh, we would now be convinced of his healing mission?

Surely, to have been in the Master's presence would have been an extraordinary privilege and blessing. But there is no physical Jesus present today to convince us and to follow. Can we hope even to approximate the joy and conviction felt by his receptive disciples or those people he healed? Jesus said near the end of his earthly career, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." Matt. 28:20. Can this be true? Did he mean us?
