"One cannot help wondering, around Christmastime, what Jesus meant when he warned, 'Ye cannot serve God and mammon,' and what he would have thought of the way we observe his birthday season.

"Each year around [that] time, we grumble about the commercialization of Christmas. We say it is getting worse every year, and it seems to be; the Thanksgiving turkey has hardly settled in our stomachs before we are bombarded with the commercial barrage of Christmas propaganda.
