Update on recent court cases

It has sometimes been said that Christian Scientists insulate themselves ostrich-like from human problems. On the contrary, the true practice of Christian Science—as its adherents well know—fosters a spiritual realism which impels them to confront and heal even the most threatening human situations with the acknowledgment of God's supremacy as present fact. This acknowledgment has brought healing and regeneration to the lives of countless Christian Scientists over the years, and it holds the promise of renewal for Christianity.

In the spirit of this realism and with the brightness of this promise in their hearts, Christian Scientists will want to have current information about several court cases bearing on the practice of Christian Science healing where children are involved.

This issue, of course, needs to be seen in the broad perspective of this movement's century-long record of healing, especially in Christian Scientist families where children have been so beautifully cared for through the faithful practice of its teachings. Indeed, one of the remarkable things about this overall healing record is the large number of instances—many of them documented through firsthand accounts in our periodicals—of the healing of children's illnesses which had been given up as hopeless by medicine. This is what should impress any reasonable person who has honestly taken the record of Christian Science healing into account.
