Do you love the Messiah?
For unto us a child is born ...: and his name shall be called Wonderful.... (Isaiah 9:6)
Most of us have memories of Christmas past that include symbols of what this special season means to us. I think one of my favorite memories is attending a performance of Handel's Messiah in a university chapel and afterward stepping out into a night filled with the sound of carillon bells and resplendent with newly falling snow.
Ever since that night, Handel's Messiah has become an important part of my Christmas. Whether I find time to attend a live performance of Messiah or only listen to a recording of it in the solitude of my home, within this music I always gain a joyous sense of Immanuel—"God with us."
