How to hear and keep the Word of God
Christ Jesus left a bright promise and strong admonition to all his followers when he said, "Blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it." Luke 11:28. Just two steps, "hear the word" and "keep it," and be blessed—be comforted, assured, healed. These may not be easy requirements, but they result in rich rewards.
In order to hear the Word of God we must open our hearts and recognize Truth's impartation to human consciousness. Whether it comes as the still, small voice or as the thunderings of Sinai, the message will surely come and will always and only concern good. God, divine Mind, is ever present, flooding consciousness with true thoughts. This Mind is Love, pouring forth its unerring intuitions. It is Spirit, whose pure inspirations nullify the false and fallible.
How can we hear these messages? By listening. But this listening is a spiritual receptivity, not a functioning of the physical senses. True listening is a discipline of such inner stillness that the clamor of materialism and mortality fades, and the calm and uplifted thoughts flow in. Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health, "Spirit, God, is heard when the senses are silent." Science and Health, p. 89.
