In Thy presence

Psalms 16:11

JUNE GILROY STEWART

Seesawing happiness
now up, now down.
At any moment
a shift from high to low.
Exhilarating lift,
or sudden plunge.
Extremes of mortal mood
or circumstance.

Tired of such counter-pulls,
I prayed to know
joy unprecarious.

The answer came:
Joy is the very essence
of man's being.
Oneness with the source
gives steadying balance,
no unstable soaring
or gravitational pull
of earth-weights.

God's promise:
fullness of joy in His presence—
and I am there.
