I am extremely grateful for Christian Science and its healing efficacy. One day while I was attending a community college away from home, I was hit by a car while riding my bicycle. In the split second that I was thrown from my bike, the first line of "the scientific statement of being" raced through my consciousness (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter."

I landed squarely on the seat of my pants. Looking up, I saw parts of the bicycle rolling down the street. I assured the woman who was driving the car that hit me that I was all right. Together we put the bike parts in her car, and she kindly gave me a ride back to work, for I had been on my lunch break. I worked for a little while but then felt the need to go home and pray quietly.

At home I called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. She said that my real spiritual selfhood had never fallen. I knew that to be true, and I accepted this fact of my innate perfection as God's child. After a few weeks of prayer along these lines I was completely healed! I could sit down in any position without the least discomfort. And, best of all, because of the kindnesses people showed me, such as making meals for me, I felt cared for by God and by my fellowman!
