Upon arriving home from work one evening, I started feeling...
Upon arriving home from work one evening, I started feeling very sorry for myself. I had tried many times to stop smoking through the use of willpower. Although this would work for a while, each time I would return to the habit.
That evening I decided to turn to Christian Science again (I had been raised in this wonderful religion but had drifted away for some years). And now I felt I could be healed by it. So I read the chapter entitled "Prayer" in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. In fact, during the evening I read the chapter three times consecutively. And with each reading I received more spiritual enlightenment.
Page 5 of Science and Health says: "Sorrow for wrong-doing is but one step towards reform and the very easiest step. The next and great step required by wisdom is the test of our sincerity,—namely, reformation." Well, I certainly was sorry for smoking, but could I take the next step—reformation? I knew I had to.
